The Hildegard Haus is home to an inclusive Christian faith community based in the holistic charism of St. Hildegard of Bingen. We created this tour as an opportunity to experience the art, our healing gardens, and the shrine itself from anywhere in the world at anytime of the day!

Hildegard Haus Shrine
Before one begins to compose an audio tour, the following question needs to be asked: What is the story you are trying to communicate?
Our story is simultaneously simple and complex. There are nearly a half a million churches in the U.S. but there is only one Hildegard Haus. We are the only shrine here in the U.S. dedicated to preserving and sharing the charism of St. Hildegard of Bingen, the 12th century German Benedictine nun who left behind a summa of writings, art, music, stories, and letters.
The Hildegard Haus project began to unfold in 2015 as the practical application of Rev. Dr. Shanon Sterringer’s doctoral work on St. Hildegard of Bingen, but it has evolved into something much more than she originally envisioned. From the moment this space began to manifest – first as the Hildegarden and then as the Hildegard Haus, one thing has been clear – something extraordinary is unfolding in this space and needs not only to be documented but shared with others.
The story we wish to communicate is that this space is much more than a unique collection of art, herb gardens, and worship space. We have experienced the Hildegard Haus as a thin place where heaven and earth touch. In this thin space, the invisible presence of a 12th century saint has become visible and accessible today.
The Hildegard Haus is imbued with Living Light (literally and metaphorically). It is our prayer that something along this tour will touch your soul in such a way that you too will feel the greening energy – the viriditas – that has been guiding and sustaining our work.
As we continue to grow and evolve, our site will be updated. Our virtual journey has just begun! We are excited to share this stage of our development with you here in this audio tour!
